Solar Bears

Solar Bears features two members, John Kowalski and Rian Trench. The group released their debut EP Inner Sunshine and album She Was Coloured for Planet Mu to worldwide critical acclaim in 2010. Both received glowing praise from Pitchfork, Gorilla VS Bear, FACT Magazine, The Fader, Rough Trade, NME and The Irish Times. The album also featured heavily in best of end of year lists, taking influence from Moroder, Neu, Bjork, Morricone and Aphex Twin. Tape machines and handheld recorder are used to created a dated recording sound while blending analogue and digital technology as well as acoustics with electronics. It has created a huge impact on the blogosphere and in music publications simultaneously. The band also remixed artists such as Keep Shelly In Athens and Sun Airway.

Soundcloud

SertOne

This young Irish artist based out of Liverpool is elbowing his way to the top of the electronic beat scene after his debut release ‘The View From Above’ EP and he’s been notching up a serious amount of synth heavy, bass driven remixes in recent months. With his passion of hip hop infused with wild synths and off kilter beats, his live set is not to be missed.

Soundcloud

miracleboy

Miracle Boy is the new guise of Graham Ginty, one fifth of When Pilots Eject. Just as influenced by disco as he is by post rock, his music takes basic audio recordings and turns them into something much bigger, wider and much more than the sum of it’s eclectic parts. He has previously remixed Italian post rock legends Port Royal and Belfast’s Jane Bradfords and returns now to release new music on Derry based Boredaudio.

imprintthisonyourmind podcast #20 feat acroplane records

ITOYM20

I moved to Belfast in 2004 and the city was really only starting to pick up - it seemed like a really slow start and there was a sheer lack of good electronic music shows. Well - it turned out there was a lack of good shows that I KNEW about. I remember we heard of these guys who ran a label called electrotoxic and we ended up going to a Wrong Music rave one of their guys was running. Turned out to be a 12 hour sesh and I believe I had a hollowed out computer monitor on my head at one stage.

Since then Acroplane has supplied me with some serious tunage and I featured them loads on my old QR radio show. Its with great pleasure that I help them celebrate their 5th birthday with an Acroplane mini mix in the podcast. Stellar.

imprintthisonyourmind podcast #19 record store day

ITOYM19

So, I know what you’re thinking. Where have you been Matt? We’ve been sitting waiting patiently for you to spit some knowledge our way? Whats that? Oh… you didn’t notice I was gone.

Ahem. Well, life has surely got in the way of this podcast. One time, a good while back, I decided to have this messed up thing called a job and by george it has been getting in the way. I was also victim to the South Belfast Burglar Squad who took great pleasure in popping into the house while I was sleeping and acquiring my podcast making machine for themselves to sell the next day on Gumtree.

Well, anyway, I’ve been holding onto this one for too long - not too much new music for you but a whole plethora of content recorded at Head Record Store on Record Store Day.

We have live recorded tracks from Charles Hurts, Third Man Theme and Sea Pinks. We also have interviews from the bands, plus interviews with Jonny Tiernan and Kenny who runs Head.

I’ve put a few new tunes in there, namely a cracking new rocker from Comply or Die who will be stepping up into the session very soon.

imprintthisonyourmind Podcast #18 feat Defcon

ITOYM17

Well - what serious weather we have been having lately eh? Probably one of the nicest Springs ever - and hopefully this podcast can be the perfect accompaniment to the great sunshine.

We have the magnificent Defcon in the session - it was recorded live when he supported Knxwledge and the last imprint gig - its a seriously cracker set. If you were there, you will get to relive it again and if you weren’t, well now you get to join all the lucky people who were. We also snagged a rare interview with Knxwledge over a herbal cigerette before he slayed at the menagerie - its a great insight into the man’s life and processes.

There’s also a whole list of cracking new music in there - so find a spot in the sun - kick back - put the headphones on - and enjoy.

imprintthisonyourmind podcast #17 feat Documenta

ITOYM17

So - I’ve disappeared for a while - it seems most years in the post christmas madness, I tend to retract and try to take stock of it all. 2011 has already bitchslapped me with so much music I’ve ran out of money and resorted to revisiting a lot of stuff I got in late 2010. Hopefully, quarter number two will continue to impress and we can get a few more podcasts your way.

Number 17 comes with an injection of space-traversing drone pop from the wonderful lads at Documenta. They’ve rocked out two of their own plus a cover here. I’ve straddled that with some lovely new music all backended by a new opus from the almighty strangeloop - when you make it there - let it come on slow. Its such a tune.
