One Bit Art

Tristan Perich

Lately I’ve been pretty bad at writing things here on this site. I don’t really know why but I’m going to strive to try and stick up something interesting every week. If you actually read this then this will excite you surely.

I came across Tristan Perich last year and then I forgot about him again. Last week I pulled up his site One Bit Musicfor another look. This guy does some amazing work at merging the visual and audible side of his work into one beautiful piece of work. The guy basically programs and packages some basic enough electronics inside a CD jewel case and at the core of these electronics is a single microchip that is programmed to synthasise some pretty messed up 1-bit IDM. Anyone wanting to listen merely plugs some headphones into the side of the jewel case and presses the small button. Sheer genius. Check out his site and one of his tracks below.

Treading the Warpath

Tapasia

Tapasia will spring from the studio this coming month with a debut EP set to stir the ears of the scene. Coming up from mainly metal based roots, this trio have really caught my eye over the last 4 months. Having already grabbed a second place in a national battle of the bands competition, Tapasia look set to have a great year.

Twisting chuggy, melodic guitar riffs with tinges of tool-like psychedelica, they form a sound reminisent of late 90’s post grunge mixed with a large dollop of space.

Watch this space for more reports in the coming months, and check out the demo track “Warpath” in the player below…

Life of Virtuality

February 13, 2008

Its been a crazy month kids. A crazy month in which I’ve had to neglect every aspect of my life except university and numerous aquaintances. Now that exams are over and the results are in, I thought i’d take some time to bring any readers up to speed with a few of the more interesting things going on in my life.

If you haven’t already discovered the young wonder that is RL/VL, then look no further. The IDM fuelled, fully fledged space cadet that is Jack has released a debut EP with the laced milk collective and is set to put out a release with the Acroplane peoples in the very near future. He sessioned for us on the attic this week and you can grab that from the podcasts section of the site or direct download it here. Also check out an exclusive mp3 from the man himself below, entitled “Cranmore Playhouse”.

Another little release that should be winging its way into your mindset this very instant is the new “Disambiguation” release from acroplane and the alphabetset, both Irish netlabels. A joint release, this wonder features the cream of both labels’ artists and has already had airtime on the Radio 1 Experimental show. Grab it here and enjoy the sounds. Check out a track from it below - Prince Kong with Calamity Dogg.
